Today's Blade has an article about the up and coming electric cars from Chrysler.

I am for all types of efficient affordable transportation that lessens our dependence on foreign oil. I do not believe fossil fuels are EVIL, but recognize they are a finite resource.
BUT, when people talk about electric cars, or hybrids, how come they don't ask this question.
Where do we get the electricity to run them?
Why don't people ask this question? Because most on the left/environmental side don't want to admit the answer. The most efficient, safe, clean source of electricity is nuclear power, a four letter word in their world. What is the second most available source -- coal fired power plants. An evil carbon resource.
Now I am sure liberal anti-energy development proponents would counter with, What about hydro-electric? But that is oppression of the fishes. OR - Don't discount solar and wind power! I won't discount them, but I won't rationally consider them until the technology discounts their cost.

TAHL,
While we are asking the questions about electric cars that nobody asks...
A car that runs on batteries is going to require a lot of them. Disposing of such batteries could have a serious environmental impact. As these cars age and need to be replaced, how will all of these batteries be disposed of, and has this been taken into consideration by those pushing such an agenda?
Many of the people that think they are saving because they are getting great mileage haven't figured in the cost of replacement batteries.
The other question of "where does electricity come from?" is very much akin to "where do babies come from?" It's obvious that electricity comes out of the wall while babies are brought by storks. It's the deliberate ignorance associated with not really thinking any further than the wall socket.
What a convenient answer. When I hear these people speak with glee about the idea of having some sort of benign "electric car" it reminds me of a speech I heard at the old Comdex computer show in Las Vegas about 20 years ago. There was the president of a coal company that spoke to the computer guys. The computer people all sat there wondering what their business had to do with coal. The coal guy explained that unless his company mined coal that fired electric plants, their computers don't do anything.
You are overlooking an important resource here.
Think of all the people that would be employed if we just forced the peasants to pull our ricksaws!
I'm all for nuclear power. I said it. I am a Democrat that is all for the utilization of nuclear energy.
Still, ricksaws. Think about it.
